Originality is key

Blizzard is one of the most popular developers in the world thanks to the great quality of the games it releases and the detailed and complex franchises it holds, like StarCraft, Diablo, Warcraft or the hugely successful World of Warcraft.

Even though the company is hard at work on all of these series, it also has a mysterious online project in development, which is led by the same man who managed WoW when it was released. Of course, rumors about this new project appeared on the Internet, with many deeming things like a World of StarCraft or World of Diablo certain, claiming that Blizzard would most likely base the online game on a franchise it already has.

But things aren't like that, says a Blizzard employee, who posted an announcement on the company forums, where players were eagerly debating the topic of this new project. In the post, the staff member says that it will be based on a completely new franchise, which the team is developing from scratch.

“We have nothing to advertise for the new MMO because it's a shell of a game thus far. We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch. It's an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel. Our track record supports this.”

This will be Blizzard’s first new IP in 11 years, making fans even more interested in what the company currently has cooking in its development studios. But sadly, judging by the tone of the announcement and Blizzard's policy of releasing details when there is something big to announce, we won't see any concrete things about this game for quite some time.
