Midway no longer owns the NFL license, so they had to come up with a similar construct and thus we have Blitz: Overtime. It was developed and
published by Midway Games and launched on December 12 for the PSP.
It is quite similar to the gridiron football Blitz games and features a set of slightly different rules than the usual one. The scoring line is now at 30 feet and the teams only have eight players. There are no referees nor penalties and the level of violence ranges from on-field injuries to more complicated carrier ending ones. There are even some moments when such moves are required in order to win the game.
On another note, the game was banned in Australian as it promoted the use of steroids although it is region free so the NTSC version can be played on a Pal console. Voicework and likeness of former pro linebacker Bill Romanowski were used to offer some connection with reality. It was released on all major consoles and has had a semi-positive reception throughout the gaming community.
