It seems being a TV star ain't half that bad, since, besides getting free clothes, you also get free gadgets along with other presents. This is the case of Emmy hosts, presenters and performers, all of whom will receive a blinged out Palm Centro at this year’s edition of the awards show. 

Granted, maybe the price of the phone isn't that high (about 100$ US) to start with, but when Palm teams up with designer label Ed Hardy to create a customized, bejeweled Centro phone, it's pretty obvious that its value goes high up.

What we found out is that these customized phones will only be available for this occasion, so we’re dealing with a limited series, which also boosts up the overall value of the Centro. This being said, as a mere mortal, you will never be able to get your hands on one, except if a TV star decides to sell it at an auction but, then again, in this case, what are the chances to actually get one? Down to zero, if you ask me.

Either way, all this is just another good advertising scheme to put Centro in the spotlight and, thus, help the company make a little (or potentially huge) profit off the sales that will follow the event. Let's take a quick look at what Palm Centro is offering for only $100: you get a pretty small smartphone (107 x 53.5 x 18.6 mm), with a 320 x 320 65K TFT touchscreen, and a full QWERTY keyboard, and that uses Palm OS.

It has a 1.3 megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom and video capture, to take quick shots of all those interesting things you see and that you can later save either on the internal 64MB memory or on the microSD card (up to 4GB ). You also get an MP3 player to relax as you’re listening to your favorite tunes while you either surf the Internet using the Blazer 4.5 browser, or read a book using the document viewer/editor (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF).

Overall, for that price tag, I'd say that you get a pretty cool and practical smartphone that you can use easily, which makes the Centro really appealing, especially if you don't want to go spending big.
