In connection with the European DMB project known as "MiFriends", Blaupunkt, a member of the Bosch Group, has developed the world's first DMB car radio: the Nashville DMB 35 receiver. Now it is possible to receive a number of different television programs even while on the road. The unit is based on the digital Nashville DAB 35 car radio (DAB - Digital Audio Broadcasting/DMB - Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), but it has been additionally equipped with
a DMB decoder and a TV output. The television pictures are reproduced on separate color monitors.

The Nashville DMB 35 car radio is able to receive all the freely available DMB and DAB programs on Band III and the L-Band and, thanks to the high-quality reception characteristics of the DAB and DMB digital technologies, it delivers convincing performance. In Germany alone, the unit is able to pick up approximately 135 radio stations as well as "Watcha", the television station broadcast by the ZDF (state-operated German TV station) via the DMB channel and bigFM2see, a radio station that also offers slide shows. By the end of August, programs from N24 and from MTV are expected to be added to that list. In connection with the MiFriends project, a total of 32 radio and television stations are now broadcasting in the regions around Munich and Regensburg.

Blaupunkt developed this car radio primarily for the DMB project. Consequently, the Hildesheim-based company provides the Nashville DMB 35 and the monitors exclusively to professional users free of charge. They include for the most part experts in automotive manufacturing, broadcasting network operators, radio station operators and media institutions.

However, the architecture of the Nashville DMB 35 test units designed by Blaupunkt engineers for universal use is also suitable for use worldwide. The first organizations from the fields of automotive technology or media in the UK, France, Italy, Korea and China have already displayed a strong interest in test drives with the world's first DMB car radio.
