We’ve already had two Snow White movies this year, big Hollywood productions with huge stars attached. It’s time to get ready for something entirely different now, even though still based on the popular fairytale.

“Blancanieves” is a black and white Spanish film that pays tribute to the silent-era in cinematography, while also presenting a Snow White quite unlike anything else we’ve seen before.

A new trailer for it, ahead of its US release, has been made available online, and is embedded in full above.

The film opened at the San Sebastian Film Festival this fall and earned raving reviews from the critics community so, if you’re in the mood for some European arthouse film, it’s probably a very good place to start.

Directed by Pablo Berger, “Blancanieves” will be out in US theaters in January next year.
