Blacklight: Retribution, the free-to-play first-person shooter from Zombie Studios, will be released today in Europe on PlayStation 4. The game is not yet available for download on the PlayStation Store, and will probably be introduced as part of a regular update.

In March 2013, Zombie Studios announced that Blacklight: Retribution would be out for the PlayStation 4 during Q4 2013, initially intended to be part of the PS4's launching lineup. After a last-minute delay, the release date has been pushed back until today, reports EuroGamer.

Blacklight: Retribution is set in a science-fiction background and offers a variety of game modes and maps. The game has no single-player campaign, focusing entirely on online multiplayer action. However, players also have the option of playing practice matches against enemy AI bots.

The game is built on Unreal Engine 3 and was well received at the time of its PC release, in April 2012. Its engaging, varied gameplay and stunning graphics translated in the game receiving praise from reviewers, although the game was criticized for being too generic.

The game has also been praised for its detailed weapon customization options, as you can change the muzzle, barrel, magazine, optic sights, stock, camouflage and weapon tag of all available weapons. There are also premade models that save users from having to spend time picking all the parts and allow them to jump straight into the action.

Similar to other free-to-play titles for the PS4, a PlayStation Plus subscription is not needed to play the game.
