Good news for The Dark Eye universe fans, as Daedalic's first RPG title is now available for purchase on Steam. Given the fact the game is now in early access, players will be provided with only the first chapter from a total of five.

According to developers, each new chapter will be released three weeks apart from each other and the official launch of the game is set for late January, 2014.

However, those who decided to grab the game while it's in early access will only have to pay $24.99/£18.99/€24.99, whereas the final version that will be released next month is priced at €39.99 (further local prices to be announced).

For those unfamiliar with Blackguards, this is Daedalic's first RPG, but it's set in the same The Dark Eye universe as many of the studio's adventure games (Chains of Satinav, Memoria).

This is not really a traditional RPG, but rather a turn-based RPG that requires some strategic decisions in order to overcome the challenges thrown upon the player.

Players who are already accustomed with Daedalic's awesome adventure games and wish to try out the new RPG title should know that Blackguards “combines the studio's high standards of storytelling and unique characters with thrilling action and an elaborate 3D environment.”

And it gets even better. In Blackguards, you won't manage a party of wannabe heroes, instead Daedalic decided to “tell one of the bleakest stories ever told in the universe of 'The Dark Eye.'

So, you will take on the role of a convicted murderer, accompanied by a bunch of outcasts and criminals. As you make your way to south of Aventuria you will be presented with challenging quests that lead you through a dark and grim story of treachery.

It's also worth mentioning those who pay $34.99/£26.99/€34.99 for the Blackguards Early Access Deluxe Edition, will also receive an approx. 150 page artbook, as well as developer interview videos and six exclusive wallpapers.

Moreover, players who decide to grab the Blackguards Early Access Contributor Edition, priced $49.99/£29.99/€49.99, will also get an appearance of their names within the game’s credits, as well as the first Blackguards DLC and a copy of the The Dark Eye point & click adventure Chains of Satinav for free.
