Since its release, documentary film “Blackfish” has made headlines several times, mostly because animal rights activists have been using it as proof that marine park SeaWorld tortures and abuses animals.

The film is now back in the spotlight, but for very different reasons. It turns out that “Blackfish” has made it on the shortlist of Oscar nominees, and might win an award for Best Documentary at the upcoming ceremony on March 2.

“Blackfish” was nominated together with 14 other documentaries, Ecorazzi tells us.

The folks behind the Oscars will release a new short shortlist of five nominations on January 16, and, if “Blackfish” gets on this list as well, it just might be hip hip hooray for its producers.

In all fairness, the documentary film has caused quite a stir, so I for one would be surprised if it didn't make it on the five nominations list. Or win the award for Best Documentary, for that matter.
