14 DAY TRIAL // Canadian carrier Telus has just added Blackberry Torch 9800 on its “Coming Soon” webpage. The move comes right after another Canadian carrier, Bell, leaked some info about a possible launch of the same smartphone earlier this week
Previously rumored as BlackBerry Slider 9800, Torch 9800 is the first RIM smartphone to come with Blackberry 6.0 OS out-of-the-box.
If this is RIM's flagship smartphone, then it's way lower in terms of features then its Android competitors.
Blackberry Torch 9800 comes with a mid-sized 3.2-inches TFT touch screen (360 x 480 pixels resolution), optical trackpad, proximity sensor for auto turn-off.
It is powered by a 624 MHz processor and runs BlackBerry OS 6.0. It features a slider form factor and includes a full QWERTY keyboard.
The slider smartphone embeds 4 GB storage space, 512 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, and a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32 GB, 4 GB card included).
Other key features of the device include: HSDPA and HSUPA compatibility, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, UMA (carrier-dependent), 5.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, continuous auto-focus, and image stabilization, GPS with A-GPS support, and 3.5 mm audio jack.
In terms of software the smartphone offers: Social feeds, BlackBerry maps, Document editor (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF), Push Email, Instant Messaging.
“The BlackBerry Torch smartphone closes the gap between inspiration and action; it keeps you closely informed and makes it easy to drive your communications and produce the results you want,” - sounds the smartphone's description on the carrier website.
While there's no word on the official launch date, rumors say that the carrier is preping a launch on the 21st September.
Still, other rumors are saying that Telus will be releasing the device on the 16th of September, so if any of these dates are proving true we will be seeing the device being available before the end of next month. Further, there's no information about its price tag either.
