Just now, BlackMagic Design has announced the availability of a new firmware update utility package compatible with all its digital cameras, namely version 1.9.4, which only includes general performance improvements for the URSA imaging devices (EF, PL, HDMI, and Broadcast).

When it comes to supported operating systems, this release consists of two downloadable archives, one compatible with the 64-bit variant of Microsoft’s Windows 7 and 8 OSes, and the other targeted at Mac OS X 10.8 or later platforms.

If you intend to make use of these enhancements, simply save and extract the appropriate package for your operating system, and prior to applying the new software, run the “Uninstall Camera Utility” to remove any previous version.

Now, run the available setup from the newly created folder, and follow the onscreen instructions for a complete and successful installation.

Even though it seems easy, bear in mind that during the update, the LCD of the BlackMagic Cinema Camera EF or MFT might flicker. Since this is a normal behavior, make sure not to turn off the device or interrupt the process in any way.

In addition to that, if you are about to update a Cinema Camera or a Production Camera 4K, you should know that a suitable Thunderbolt port is required in order to complete the installation.

With this in mind, download BlackMagic Design Camera Firmware Update Utility 1.9.4, take into account all aforementioned aspects, and apply the latest software on your imaging unit.
