Just now, BlackMagic Design has rolled out a new build of its camera firmware update utility, namely version 1.9.6, which includes general performance improvements for its URSA devices, as well as for the Studio Camera 4K unit.

Therefore, in order to benefit from these enhancements on the aforementioned cameras, or if you simply want to have the latest version installed on your system, then you should consider upgrading to this release.

As for the downloadable package, the producer has made available two files, one compatible with the 64-bit variant of Microsoft’s Windows 7 and 8 operating systems, and the other targeted at Mac OS X 10.8 or later platforms.

With this in mind, first run the “Uninstall Camera Utility” to ensure a fresh upgrade, and only afterwards save and install the appropriate package for your system.

In addition to that, bear in mind that, after upgrading the Cinema Camera EF or MFT devices, their LCD display might slightly flicker. This is a normal behavior and the cameras won’t permanently experience this – it will simply fade away after a few minutes of operation.

Moreover, you should also know that for updating the software on the Cinema Camera or the Production Camera 4K, a compatible Thunderbolt port will be necessary.

That being said, download BlackMagic Design Camera Firmware Update Utility 1.9.6 for the appropriate device and OS, take into account all aforementioned aspects, and enjoy your newly improved camera.
