The upcoming BlackBerry tablet has been in the rumor mill for a while now. Back in March, hopes that the tablet might arrive soon were rekindled as a BlackBerry Bridge update was rolled out bringing a few improvements and fixes.

Anyway, a new report from N4bb claims the company is gearing up to launch a new tablet by 2015. In a recent interview not so long ago, a BlackBerry official said the company hadn't given up on tablets and was actively pursuing the idea.

Nevertheless, he claimed the slate won’t arrive soon. But the new report seems to indicate otherwise. Back in 2011, BlackBerry originally launched the Playbook, a product that wasn't particular popular with consumers, so the company was forced to cut down on the prices significantly.

Even so, a recent poll showed that 60% of BlackBerry Playbook owners are still using the device and are actually happy with it. So judging by this information, the follow-up should generate a decent amount of interest.

However, the new report notes the upcoming BlackBerry tablet will be focusing on the enterprise market and users activating in fields such as medicine. So, the company seems ready to abandon the mainstream market and focus its efforts to respond to the needs of a handful of niche customers.

Of course, nothing is set in stone at this particular moment, so the company is most likely analyzing the hypothesis rather than making a definite promise. So all in all, we might not get to see a BlackBerry tablet ever make it out on the market.

As you might be aware, the original PlayBook tablet saw the light of day three years ago. Translated into tech years, this is quite a lot, considering how fast the field is developing, adopting new technologies and standards all the time.

The tablet has a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and draws power from a dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9 processor combined with 1GB of RAM. The tablet offered a choice between 16GB/32GB and 64GB internal storage and had two cameras onboard (a 5MP one as main snapper and a 3MP one on the back).

Recently, a BlackBerry official claimed the company was still mulling over tablets and they might have something planned for the future. But, to make a statement in the tablet market, BlackBerry will have to seriously up their game.

The competition between tablet manufacturers these days is quite heated, as more and more capable slates with budget prices are released. Will BlackBerry be able to handle it?
