Today, Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry has made official a new flavor of its BlackBerry Z3 smartphone, one that will become available for purchase exclusively in Indonesia, namely the BlackBerry Z3, Jakarta Edition.

The new handset is set to become available for purchase in the country as soon as May 15 and will be up for grabs through authorized BlackBerry partners at a price of IDR 2,199,000 ($191/€138), the company has announced.

As mentioned above, the new device was designed specifically for users in Indonesia and is meant to provide them with some additional means to stay connected and to share content with their contacts.

The BlackBerry Z3, Jakarta Edition should deliver a great mobile experience, since it has been built on reliable, secure communications, the mobile phone maker also notes.

The new device is capable of offering appealing productivity capabilities on its 5-inch qHD touchscreen display, which is complemented by a long-lasting battery and a great typing experience.

The phone sports 8GB of internal memory, as well as a 5-megapixel camera on the back with full HD video recording. It is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8230 processor, paired with 1.5GB of RAM.

BlackBerry also plans on making available for purchase a limited-edition model with the inscription “Jakarta” carved on the back, but only for a certain period of time, so as to mark the release of this BlackBerry smartphone designed specifically for the Indonesia market.

“BlackBerry has changed the way millions of people around the world stay connected. From conception to delivery, the BlackBerry Z3, Jakarta Edition was designed specifically with our Indonesian customers in mind,” John Chen, executive chairman and CEO, BlackBerry, says.

“This device gives users more ways to connect, share and communicate, providing the best tool for secure, reliable communications and collaboration with friends, family and co-workers.”

BlackBerry Z3, Jakarta Edition will also come to the market with a special set of BBM Stickers featuring local characters, so as to provide users with exclusive content as well. These stickers include The Punakawan, by Indonesian illustrator Susilo Saptoady, which will be free for a limited period of time.

At the same time, BlackBerry has announced that users in Indonesia will also be able to join local BBM Channels, which will enable them to receive updates from their favorite brands, communities and opinion leaders.

“Priced affordably, the BlackBerry Z3, Jakarta Edition will extend the full capabilities of the BlackBerry 10 Operating System version 10.2.1 experience for a new generation of customers in Indonesia,” Chen also says.

Starting May 15, the new BlackBerry Z3, Jakarta Edition will be put up for grabs through all BlackBerry Lifestyle stores in the country, as well as via authorized partners, PT. Teletama Artha Mandiri (TAM) and PT. Mitra Telekomunikasi Selular (MTS). More on the new smartphone can be found on BlackBerry's website.
