Owners of BlackBerry Z10 devices on the network of wireless carrier Vodafone India can now download and install a new platform release, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

This is the same OS upgrade that BlackBerry announced for its new device several days ago, and brings along a wide range of enhancements to users.

According to bbin.in, the update is fairly large, and users should consider downloading and installing it over a Wi-Fi connection, so as to make sure there won’t be any data charges involved in the updating of their new smartphones.

Just as BlackBerry announced before, the new OS release arrives with a series of performance enhancements for third-party applications, so that users would enjoy faster apps and a smoother experience.

Additionally, the new platform release brings along a series of fixes for Gmail calendars on BlackBerry 10, along with improvements for BlackBerry Hub and for importing contacts from online sources.

Other enhancements in this update include:

- Camera - We’ve optimized the camera for better photos in low-light situations. You’ll love the difference this makes for photos where you don’t use a flash – like the Time Shift Camera feature.

- Browser and Media - With more and more of you using the gorgeous screen on the BlackBerry Z10 to consume online videos and media, we’ve made a number of improvements to the software in the way the browser handles video playback to provide a fantastic experience.

- Battery Life - The software team has included a number of battery life optimizations with over 60 battery saving improvements since launch to keep you moving. These combined improvements are designed so that you see improvements in battery life and heavy users especially should see a longer average usage per charge cycle.

Users should receive a notification on the availability of the new platform release, BlackBerry notes. However, they can also perform manual checks on its availability, through going to Settings> Software Updates> Check for Updates on their BlackBerry Z10 smartphones.
