Starting today, mobile phone users in the UK interested in the purchase of a BlackBerry Z10 smartphone can head over to The Carphone Warehouse to grab one.

The new device can already be seen listed on the retailer’s website in Black and White, though the latter version is said to be available only on pre-order, expected to ship starting with February 18.

BlackBerry Z10 is the first smartphone from BlackBerry (the new name that Research In Motion has adopted) to arrive on shelves under the re-engineered BlackBerry 10 operating system.

As its maker announced yesterday when it made the new device official, users should receive a new mobile computing experience through the new platform, while also enjoying the capabilities of the fastest and most advanced BlackBerry smartphone yet.

Starting today, January 31st, the new BlackBerry Z10 is available for purchase from Carphone Warehouse for free on plans starting at £36 per month on all major networks.

“This launch presents a fantastic opportunity for BlackBerry to reaffirm itself as a key player in the mobile marketplace,” Graham Stapleton, chief operating officer at Carphone Warehouse, commented.

“There has been considerable buzz around the changes that will come with the introduction of BlackBerry 10 - it represents a giant leap forward in user experience that we’re sure Carphone Warehouse customers will be keen to trial.”

The smartphone hits shelves with a 4.2-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 768 x 1280 pixels resolution, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot to expand it.

Furthermore, it sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back with full HD video recording, a 2MP front camera for making video calls in HD, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE connectivity, GPS receiver, and the usual set of sensors.

The BlackBerry 10 operating system enables users to stay connected at all times through BlackBerry Hub, while also providing them with a new keyboard experience, and an upgraded BBM (BlackBerry Messenger).
