Today, Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry announced a partnership with Zimbalam, a leading global digital music distributor, for bringing content from independent artists to the BlackBerry World.

As part of this partnership, owners of BlackBerry devices will be able to enjoy music from unsigned musicians through the storefront, the handset vendor announced.

“Zimbalam and BlackBerry will leverage Zimbalam’s expansive distribution network and custom technologies to give independent artists the ability to sell their music around the world on BlackBerry World,” the two companies announced.

All artists interested in taking advantage of the deal will enjoy Zimbalam’s clear and simple interface and daily sales reports, the two also announced.

Furthermore, they announced that customer support has been designed so as to fit artists’ local language, and that distribution packs will be adapted according to the market.

Furthermore, the two companies explain that artists will have the opportunity to evolve through this partnership, as around 20 artists a month are currently being provided with the opportunity to work with A&R and develop their careers.

Artists interested in the matter can get started though visiting this page on Zimbalam’s website, where they can create an account and choose release dates and the territories where they want to be selling music in.

Artists will have to pay a small distribution fee, but will receive in exchange 90 percent of the royalties from sales.

“Zimbalam exists in order to allow unsigned artists to get their music on to digital music stores and to find their audience. We are excited to be working with BlackBerry as it will give artists access to a different fan base and help with the discovery of their music,” said Denis Ladegaillerie, CEO of Zimbalam.

“Whether you’re an independent artist, label or simply a customer who loves to create music, Zimbalam through BlackBerry World will be a fantastic vehicle to share your music with the world,” said Martyn Mallick, vice president, Global Alliances and Business Development at BlackBerry.
