BlackBerry will provide the BES 12 platform

If you’re concerned about keeping your mobile data safe and away from curious eyes, you are probably familiar with Boeing’s efforts to build a highly secure smartphone, called Boeing Black.

Sure Boeing is a well-known name in the aerospace and defense industries, but that doesn’t mean the Chicago-based company won’t come up with a worthy smartphone.

Boeing and BlackBerry partner up to create a spy-phone

According to a report arriving via Reuters, Boeing has partnered up with BlackBerry in order to bring the smartphone to the market. Thus, the Boeing Black will reportedly take advantage of the BES 12 platform, which is supposed to provide advanced levels of security.

BlackBerry’s CEO confirmed that the two companies would be doing business together, but he couldn’t offer more details about the deal because he isn’t allowed to, for the time being.

Boeing has been hard at work at developing its super secure handset ever since 2012, but they are yet to make it available.

The Boeing Black is a dual-SIM smartphone that can connect to various networks, satellites, and biometric sensors. But what’s more interesting, the device can apparently self-destruct if it detects it has been tampered with.

The device runs Android out of the box and offers highly specialized tools such as Disk Encryption (Encrypted storage for sensitive data), Hardware Root to Trust (Ensures software authenticity), Secure Boot (Maintains device image integrity), and Hardware Modularity (Endless modularity capabilities).

The spy-phone comes boasting a chunky 13.25 mm / 0.52 inch body, which makes it almost as thick as Apple’s latest iPhone.

But this large frame, which some people might consider uncomfortable, will allow users to custom configure the device with biometric sensors like fingerprint scanners and communication with satellites.

The Boeing Black will be sold to governmental agencies

It’s pretty obvious at this point that the Boeing Black won’t go on sale for mainstream consumers, but will be marketed for “governmental agencies and their contractors to ensure the data and voice communications undertaken by their respective employees and transmitted and stored in highly secure manner.”

Even if the Boeing Black spy phone seems to have it all in terms of security, the handset will not be the smartphone of choice of popular James Bond.

Yesterday, we told you that the upcoming Xperia Z4 flagship device might be making an appearance in the latest Bond flick which has been entitled Spectre. The device just leaked online in a few images and we expect it to arrive at CES 2015.

Sony has already announced its press release for CES 2015 which is scheduled to take place on January 5. So keep an eye on them.
