Canadian mobile phone users interested in the purchase of the latest smartphone from Research In Motion, namely the BlackBerry Torch 9800, can now pre-order the device via Best Buy.

The new BlackBerry mobile phone is expected to make an appearance on the market in Canada on September 24, when it would be put on sale at four carriers in the country, including Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Virgin Mobile.

However, in case there are some who would like to order one unit in advance, they can head over to a local Best Buy store and reserve one Torch 9800 units with the carrier of their choice, the retailer notes on its website.

“Be one of the first to own the new BlackBerry Torch, the first BlackBerry slider. To pre-order, visit your local Best Buy Mobile location and provide a $50 deposit, when the phone becomes available we will contact you so you can be on of the first to experience the Torch,” is what Best Buy announced.

The first RIM smartphone to land on the market with the new BlackBerry 6 OS on board is also the first such device to include a sliding design, not to mention that it is the first of them to pack both a touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard.

The specifications list of the handset include 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display capable to deliver a 360 x 480 pixel resolution, a portrait sliding keypad, a 624 Mhz processor, and 512 MB of Flash memory.

Moreover, the new device comes with aWi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity options, as well as with 3.5mm headset jack and built-in GPS receiver, as well as with a 1300 mAhr battery capable of providing up to 5.8 hours of talk time.

Measuring 4.4 (5.8 open) x 2.4 x .57 inches and weighing in at 5.68 ounces, the new BlackBerry Torch sports a microSD/SDHD memory card slot that can support up to 32 GB of additional storage space.

The new BlackBerry 6 OS the handset runs under comes with enhanced multimedia features, as well as with a brand new Webkit browser set to deliver a better navigation experience than previous versions of the solution did.

For the time being, no specific info on the handset's cost in Canada emerged, but rumor has it that we should see it made available for around $199.99 upon the signing of a 3-year contract agreement with one of the aforementioned wireless carriers.
