A new BlackBerry 7 OS-based handset is expected to become available for purchase in the UK in a matter of weeks, namely the BlackBerry Torch 9860, now reportedly slated for an October 3rd release date.

Initially, the handset was expected to become available for purchase in the country before the end of September, but it seems that RIM decided to push it back by a few weeks.

However, the handset will arrive on shelves starting with October 3rd, a recent article on Clove notes.

The mobile phone was already made available for pre-order in the UK, SIM free and unlocked, yet those who reserved it will have to wait a little longer before being able to enjoy its features.

The new mobile phone comes to the market with a large 3.7-inch touchscreen display, the largest ever available on a BlackBerry device.

Moreover, the same as other BlackBerry 7 OS handsets, the new Torch 9860 arrives on shelves with a fast 1.2GHz application processor inside, which can deliver better graphics performance than what previous models did, and with upgraded RAM and internal memory.

On the back, it sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper with support for HD video recording. It also features a microSD memory card slot for expanding the available storage space by up to 32GB, along with support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity.

The BlackBerry Torch 9860 is powered by a 1230 mAh battery, and offers support for various applications and services that RIM has in place for the latest BlackBerry 7 OS devices, including BlackBerry Balance and BlackBerry Messenger 6.

Not to mention that it offers better Internet connectivity capabilities, courtesy of a new, improved web browser, with HTML5 support and pinch to zoom features.

Moreover, the handset sports the Liquid Graphics interface, so that users receive a better experience when it comes to viewing photos and videos, or to running games and applications on the go. (via)
