Canadian wireless carrier Rogers is gearing up for the release of a new BlackBerry smartphone, the Torch 9860, and cases for the device were already made available for its customers.

The handset itself is not yet for sale via Rogers' channels, but the fact that cases have emerged for it suggests that the launch should be near.

Those who would head over to the wireless carrier's website here will see a wide selection of cases for the BlackBerry Torch 9860 already put for sale.

The prices range from $19.99 to $39.99 at Rogers, but those who would like to purchase any of them for less will find them available elsewhere as well.

As for the smartphone itself, it was previously rumored to be set for launch at Rogers sometime this week, and that might have not changed.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the BlackBerry Torch 9860 was unveiled as the latest touchscreen device from Research In Motion.

The handset should land on shelves as the successor for the previously popular BlackBerry Storm and Storm 2 smartphones, though featuring hardware specs similar with those inside RIM's latest BlackBerry OS 7-based devices.

When made available at Rogers, the BlackBerry Torch 9860 is expected to feature a price tag of $199 on a three-year contract, and should go for $524.99 when purchased contract free.

The handset packs a fast and powerful 1.2GHz application processor, along with a large 3.7-inch touchscreen display, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with HD video recording.

Moreover, it comes with microSD memory card slot for expanding the internal memory, as well as with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS receiver, 3.5mm headphone jack, and more. The BlackBerry Torch 9860 will run under BlackBerrry OS 7, which sports a great deal of enhancements when compared with the previous platform release from RIM.
