As expected, Verizon has just introduced the BlackBerry Torch 9850 smartphone for as low as $199.99 with a new two-year agreement.

However, the handset is only available for online purchases until September 15, when the first stocks of Torch 9850 units will reach Verizon stores.

Customers who want to avoid being tied down by a long-term contract can purchase the BlackBerry Torch 9850 for a suggested retail price of $499.99.

Unveiled one month ago, along with Torch 9810 and Bold 9900, the new BlackBerry Torch 9850 smartphone is one of the first to be delivered with BlackBerry 7 operating system on board.

According to Research in Motion, the handset aims to offer users the best multimedia experience ever on a BlackBerry smartphone.

It is also worth mentioning that this is RIM's first “full touch” smartphone, as it comes with a large 3.7-inch touchscreen display.

With a single core 1.2Ghz processor and Liquid Graphics, the smartphone seems to be perfectly optimized for displaying web pages, photos, videos, and able to deliver a powerful gaming experience.

The new BlackBerry 7 mobile platform offers users smoother multitasking and navigation capabilities, while the 5-megapixel camera on the back allows for crisp 720p HD video recording.

In addition, the smartphone comes with an improved BlackBerry browser, which offers faster page load times than BlackBerry 6, along with smoother panning and zooming.

Torch 9850 packs 4 GB of internal memory, 768 MB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Torch 9850 offers plenty when it comes to connectivity options, including: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, GPS with A-GPS, and NFC (Near Field Communication) support.

According to the manufacturer, the phone's standard 1230 mAh Li-Ion battery should provide up to 320 hours of standby time or up to 7 hours of talk time.
