Vodafone UK is yet another wireless carrier around the world to make the BlackBerry Torch 9800 available for purchase on its airwaves. The handset has been originally expected to arrive on shelves at Vodafone before the end of September, but it was delayed by about one week or so.

However, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 was not delayed at Vodafone UK alone, but other carriers around the world also launched it later than originally planned, including operators in Canada.

Starting with October 1st, Vodafone customers in the UK can grab the new BlackBerry smartphone from their wireless carrier, which made the device available for free on Pay monthly plans that start at £40.

“If you're looking for the latest top-of-the-range BlackBerry - which has a touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keypad - get the BlackBerry Torch,” the wireless carrier notes.

Indeed, the new Torch is the first BlackBerry smartphone to pack both a touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard, while also being the first device from RIM to come with a sliding form factor.

The new mobile phone runs under the latest flavor of the BlackBerry operating system, namely BlackBerry 6, which comes with a nice range of enhancements, including a new look, improved multimedia features, or a new Webkit browser.

“The Torch is the first BlackBerry smartphone to come with the BlackBerry 6 operating system. It lets you do more to personalize your home screen - like grouping together shortcuts to apps, email, texts and more in any way that suits you. It's great for getting your life organized on your BlackBerry,” Vodafone notes.

The new mobile phone also sports improved social networking capabilities, which add to the connectivity options already present with RIM's devices.

The specs list for Torch includes a 5 megapixel 'Zero shutter' camera, 512MB of internal memory, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, 3G capabilities, microSD card slot for additional storage space, and more.
