The second Storm still does not have a price tag attached to it

Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion made official its second touchscreen-enabled BlackBerry device yesterday, the Storm2, a handset that is set to raise the bar when it comes to the user experience RIM's touchscreen devices can deliver, while also coming to the market without the faults that the previously released BlackBerry Storm had.

Although the BlackBerry Storm2 can be already admired on RIM's website, no specific release date for the device has been given so far, but we can have a look at the pricing of the older BlackBerry Storm on various carriers in North America, just to make an idea of the price Storm2 might come around at. As many of you might already know, we've already learned that Vodafone will launch it in Europe and that UK users will get it for free on a specific plan.

When it comes to the North American availability of Blackberry Storm, Verizon Wireless in the US has it for a price tag of $49.99 on a new service plan, and has also included it in its Buy One Get One Free promotion. In Canada, the original Storm handset can be purchased via Bell and Telus, priced at $299 on a 3-year contract with the former and at $99.99 on a 3-year contract with the latter.

A recent post on BlackBerry Cool also shows the price tag for the handset with a series of retailers, and it seems that the first Storm is even more attractive this way. For example, Amazon has it available for $0.01 on a new service plan, while Let’s Talk and WireFly have it for free on a new service agreement.

Although one would expect for the price tag of Storm to have dropped already, considering that Storm2 is so close to hitting the market, it seems that carriers are a little late with this move. However, the second touchscreen phone from RIM will land in Europe on October 26, which means that it should also come to the US and Canadian carriers around the same time, so stay tuned to learn more on it.
