Taiwan Mobile offers it with new BIS plans

Taiwan Mobile and Research In Motion announced recently that the BlackBerry Storm, the first BlackBerry mobile phone that features a touchscreen display, would become available for purchase in Taiwan. The handset comes with the world’s first “clickable” touchscreen, and can provide the renowned usability and performance of the BlackBerry solution, while also including a wide range of communications and multimedia features.

“The BlackBerry Storm has been well-received by customers around the world and we are happy to introduce the first BlackBerry touch-screen smartphone to customers in Taiwan,” said Cliff Lai, chief operating officer of Consumer Business Group, Taiwan Mobile. “We see more and more Taiwanese consumers using BlackBerry smartphones now. They like to send and receive email, chat with friends on instant messaging services, listen to MP3 music and watch video on the go; and the BlackBerry Storm with its large, clickable and stunning touch-screen, rich set of multimedia capabilities and easy access to popular IM and social networking sites, is a perfect choice for them.”

The handset comes to Taiwanese users with a 3.25-inch display that boasts a 480 x 360 pixel resolution, includes leading email and messaging capabilities, 3G (HSPA) network support, desktop-style web pages, a unique SurePress touch-screen that enhances both typing and navigation, a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper and a built-in GPS receiver, all meant to offer a fast and intuitive mobile experience.

The feature list of the BlackBerry Storm includes a sleek, stylish design with chromed frame, a powerful media player, full HTML browser, applications such as Facebook, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, and Flickr, iTunes and Windows Media Player syncing, 3.5 mm stereo headset jack, Bluetooth support, 1 GB of onboard memory, microSD/SDHC memory card slot for additional storage space with support for up to 16GB cards, DataViz Documents to Go, and support for BlackBerry Internet Service and BlackBerry Enterprise Server services.

In addition, the device comes with a 1400 mAhr battery that can offer up to 6 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time. According to Taiwan Mobile, the BlackBerry Storm smartphone can be acquired for only NT$8,990 with a NT$990 plan for two years and with Taiwan Mobile’s Myzone voice service plan at NT$968 for 12 months. In addition, the carrier offers new plans for the BlackBerry Internet Service, at NT$390, NT$690 and NT$990.
