According to the latest news around the Web, Storm 2, the upcoming iteration of Research In Motion's touchscreen-enabled BlackBerry, should hit the market with the model number 9550. Moreover, the news also point towards the fact that the upcoming BlackBerry device should become available via carriers like Verizon and, most probably, Vodafone.

As many of you might already know, the future Storm flavor is expected to feature a wide range of enhancements when compared to the already existing touch-capable BlackBerry, including a better display with improved responsiveness. Moreover, the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 2 should come to the market with Wi-Fi connectivity, also unavailable with the current version.

Some of the items that should be included in the specifications list of the phone have already been unveiled, and we can count CDMA 1xRTT/EVDO Rev. A, Quad-band GSM/EDGE and Single-band UMTS/HSDPA (2100MHz only) connectivity options, the aforementioned Wi-Fi b/g capabilities, a capacitive touchscreen display that boasts a 360 x 480 pixel resolution, as well as a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper.

In addition, it seems that the new BlackBerry 9550 should feature the BlackBerry OS 5.0, which means that users will have the opportunity to also enjoy a series of software enhancements that will complement the hardware improvements available with the phone. Research In Motion has already confirmed the existence of Storm 2, as well as the fact that the device will come tot he market later during the ongoing year, which means that more details on it should surface soon.

In the meantime, we should also note that AT&T and Rogers are expected to receive their own versions of the 3G Storm, which we learn that should be the new iteration of the touchscreen device as well, namely Storm 2. Their variant, however, will come with the model number BlackBerry 9520 (different from the older 9500/9530 model), and BGR says that all details point towards the fact that the phone will soon become reality.
