Today, Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry officially announced its financial results for the first quarter of its fiscal year 2014, claiming to have sold 6.8 million smartphones in the timeframe.
Only 2.7 million of them were BlackBerry 10 handsets, it seems.
The figure marks an increase of 13 percent from the previous quarter, yet the three-month period ended June 1, 2013 also marked a GAAP loss of $84 million (€64.2 million), or $0.16 per share (loss of $67 million (€51.2 million), or $0.13 per share).
The leading smartphone maker also announced that revenue for the timeframe was of $3.1 billion (€2.37 billion), up 15 percent on a quarterly basis.
Thorsten Heins, president and CEO of BlackBerry, said that the company focused mainly on the launch of BlackBerry 10 devices in various markets around the world during the quarter, and that it will continue to invest in the new OS for the remaining of the fiscal year.
