Unfortunately, no specific details on what the device could be all about have emerged

Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry might bring a smartphone featuring a large touchscreen display to the market, the company’s CEO has recently suggested.

Speaking to The Jakarta Globe, BlackBerry CEO John Chen said that the next handset from the company might very well be a phablet, though he did not offer specific details on the matter.

“If we will do another thing, we will probably go to phablet. […] But, if I have the opportunity I will go to phablet. […] we will build what the market wants,” he said.

Chen’s remarks come soon after the company made a new cheap smartphone official, namely BlackBerry Z3, which was released in an exclusive flavor in Indonesia, where BlackBerry is still a very strong brand.

The Canadian vendor has already been rumored to plan the release of new, larger devices before the end of this year, though no specific info on when that should happen has been provided as of now.

However, since we’re already almost half-way through the year, it might not be too long before the company decides to make an official announcement on the matter.

The handset could be the previously rumored QWERTY-enabled Windermere, though there is also the possibility that another, full-touch phone is under development at the vendor.
