RIM and Porsche Design teamed up to offer BlackBerry fans the stylish P‘9981 smartphone, and the device didn’t go unnoticed. Well, at least in Germany, where the handset has been awarded for its elegant look.

RIM Germany has just announced that the BlackBerry Porsche Design P‘9981 smartphone has been awarded as “Smartphone of the Year 2012,” by a jury at the renowned “Plus X Award.”

We are very proud to receive this seal of quality. Receiving the Plus X Award for the Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone confirms we are operating at the cutting edge with our demand for design and quality,” said Axel Kettenring, managing director RIM Germany.

Those who are not familiar with the “Plus X Award” should know that this prize is awarded in the following categories: technology, sport and lifestyle.

Aside from its exquisite design, BlackBerry Porsche Design P‘9981 is also among the most powerful smartphones launched by RIM.

The device is equipped with a 1.2 GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon processor, which is complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU and 768MB of RAM.

On the inside, the smartphone packs 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card.

BlackBerry Porsche Design P‘9981 sports a decent 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 640 x 480 pixels resolution. It also comes with a full QWERTY and 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash.

Porsche Design has been a symbol for Iconic Style since 1972. Products with clean lines and no frills are at the heart of our design philosophy. Our collaboration with BlackBerry led to a smartphone that implements our credo without compromises. The Porsche Design P’9981 Smartphone by BlackBerry is a modern luxury smartphone that combines timeless design with state-of-the-art technology,” concluded Dr. Juergen Gessler, CEO of the Porsche Design Group.
