BlackBerry is going through a rough patch and is trying to keep afloat

Back in April, we saw BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins clearly speak against the possibility of rolling out a sequel to the company’s tablet, the PlayBook. He explained that he couldn't see any future for tablet devices of any kind beyond 2018.

Earlier this year, the smartphone maker also said it was going to concentrate on the enterprise market, but with Heins out of the picture, could the company be re-thinking its position as far as tablets are concerned? BlackBerry has brought in interim CEO John S. Chen, hoping his expertise might help the company through these troubled times.

And, in all possibility, a PlayBook 2 slate might be part of the answer BlackBerry is looking for. Oddly enough, the purported tablet has already made an appearance on the Ciol website, where it has been listed as one of the “top 10 tablets for Christmas 2013.” It comes with a small, elusive description.

“The Blackberry Playbook 2 uses BB10 software that took the company over a year to create. It’s much improved on its predecessor and at just £160 / $256 /€192, it’s hard to grumble.”

Does this mean we’re going to see a new BlackBerry Playbook tablet appear on the market as soon as the holiday season? We’ll just have to wait and see.
