Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is expected to bring to the country its first tablet PC, the BlackBerry PlayBook, sometime in April, with recent reports pointing out that the device would be released on April 15th at the latest.

RIM did not announce an official release date for the device as of yet, even if it unveiled the PlayBook back in September last year, but leaked info on the matter suggests that the device would hit Canada's shelves in about one month from now.

Staples Canada is expected to have the device on sale on April 15th, a recent article on CrackBerry points out.

This suggests that the retailer would launch the tablet PC either on that day, or sometime before that, but specific info on the matter lacks at the moment.

On April 15th, the retailer would have a challenge on which District would manage to sell the most PlayBooks that day, which suggests that the device would indeed be on sale on April 15th.

Hopefully, RIM too would decide to offer some more info on the matter in the near future, so as to make the availability and pricing details on the Blackberry PlayBook available for enthusiasts.

For those who might have not encountered the device before, we should note that it comes to the market with a 7-inch touchscreen display, and that it is powered by a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 application processor.

When released, it would also offer WiFi and 3G connectivity options, as well as a photo snapper on the back, microSD cards slot, GPS receiver, and more.

RIM also announced that it would put on sale more than just one version of the device, including a flavor that would include support for 4G networks, and which should arrive at Sprint in the near future. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
