Recently, Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion made available a new flavor of its BlackBerry Tablet OS for the owners of its new BlackBerry PlayBook, namely version 1.0.6. The new OS iteration comes shortly after the release of Tablet OS 1.0.5, and comes with support for the new Adobe Flash 10.3, as well as for the Adobe AIR 2.7 software.

Following the installation of this new software, users will benefit from a better performance when it comes to viewing Flash videos on the go.

According to the release notes, the new OS version comes with a series of security enhancements as well, meant to fix breaches that Adobe already detailed.

Moreover, the new OS flavor will enable users to access new applications that have been built using the Adobe AIR 2.7, RIM explains.

“Today’s update also incorporates the Adobe Flash Player updates as noted in Adobe Security Bulletins APSB11-12 and APSB11-18, which addresses issues that can potentially affect any PC, tablet or other device with an operating system that supports Flash,” RIM explains.

“While there are no known reports of any BlackBerry PlayBook tablet users being affected by these Adobe Flash issues, we (as always) encourage all BlackBerry PlayBook users to update to the newest version of the BlackBerry Tablet OS.”

The new software update is being delivered to all users for free over the air. Users will receive a notification on their PlayBook, informing them on the availability of the software for their devices.

Users can also perform manual checks for the availability of this software update, from the settings menu under Software Updates.

All those users who purchased the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet starting with June 20th, or plan on making the purchase from now on, will receive the new software as part of their BlackBerry PlayBook tablet setup process.

Those users who would like to learn more info on the security fixes the new update for BlackBerry PlayBook included should head to the handset vendor's page website here.
