A new software update is coming right up for RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook, namely the BlackBerry Tablet OS 1.0.5.2342, which includes a series of security fixes for the Adobe Flash Player.

The new software was released soon after Adobe warned on the existence of a series of security issues with the Adobe Flash Player, and should solve any existing problems with it.

The new software update will be released to all BlackBerry PlayBook devices out there over the air, and will be made available for free.

RIM notes in a recent blog post that “a new version (version 1.0.5.2342) of the BlackBerry Tablet OS will soon be available to all BlackBerry PlayBook tablet users, which contains an updated version of Adobe Flash Player within it.”

“While there are no known reports of any BlackBerry PlayBook users being affected by the Adobe Flash issue, we encourage all BlackBerry PlayBook users to update to this newest version of the BlackBerry Tablet OS,” the Canadian mobile phone maker continues.

Users who already purchased a BlackBerry PlayBook and activated it will receive a software update notification on the availability of the new OS flavor.

The notification will be displayed on the BlackBerry PlayBook status ribbon, but users can also check for the software update through heading to the settings menu to the Software Updates section.

All those who purchased the tablet PC starting with Sunday, June 12, or plan on purchasing it, will be automatically updated to v1.0.5.2342 or later as part of the setup process, the mobile phone maker notes.

The said security issue affects all systems that support Adobe Flash, and all of them are recommended to upgrade to the latest version of the software.

“This cross-site scripting vulnerability could be used to perform actions on behalf of a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet user on any website or webmail provider if the user visits a maliciously crafted website that loads Adobe Flash content,” RIM explains.

Those who would like to learn more on the said vulnerability in the Adobe Flash Player version that was included with the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet should head over to RIM's website here.
