Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has just announced that the newly unveiled BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 software update for its tablet PC will not arrive on devices before February next year. The device was unveiled to the world over a year ago, arrived on shelves earlier this year, and already tasted a series of updates.

However, the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 upgrade announces itself as one of the greatest enhancements the tablet PC is bound to taste in the near future.

However, even if things are expected to be as great, users will have to wait a bit longer before these improvements are delivered to them.

“As much as we’d love to have it in your hands today, we’ve made the difficult decision to wait to launch BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 until we are confident we have fully met the expectations of our developers, enterprise customers and end-users,” David J. Smith, SVP, BlackBerry PlayBook, Research In Motion, notes.

“So when could an end user get the new update? We expect to deliver the new BlackBerry PlayBook OS to customers in February 2012 and we’ll continue to keep you updated as we progress to the launch.”

RIM has already made available for download the beta flavor of the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, as well as the final release of the native SDK for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, so that developers can start building applications to fit the upcoming OS flavor.

The company will deliver more updates to the developer kit in the coming months, so that the full Cascades animation and UI engine that it demoed at BlackBerry DevCon will be available for app builders.

The company also announced the upcoming availability of a series of closed betas of BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 with enterprise customers from the Early Adopter Program (EAP).

“The betas will be conducted within global enterprise environments and will test the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet solution from end-to-end within corporate IT infrastructures. Feedback and improvements from these betas will benefit the overall BlackBerry PlayBook customer experience,” David J. Smith continues.

BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 will also bring along performance enhancements, as well as advanced integrated email, calendar and contact apps, along with a video store, and enhanced functionality as well.
