Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion announced during its DevCon conference this year the launch of a new device, its first tablet PC, which should land on shelves under the name of BlackBerry PlayBook

, and which packs a brand new operating system, different from the BlackBerry OS we all know about.

The launch was RIM's response to Apple's iPad, as well as to the large number of Android-based tablet PCs we've learned about lately, and packs some pretty impressive specifications.

However, it appears that RIM did not unveil all that was to unveil on this device during the said DevCon conference, and that some very appealing details were left outside.

Some of these details have been just brought to light during GITEX (Gulf Information Technology Exhibition), where Co-Chief Executive Officer Research In Motion, Jim Balsillie, presented a working BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.

Among the things that were announced there, we can count the fact that the BlackBerry PlayBook is set to arrive in Middle East, accompanied by the BlackBerry App World 2.0 and the BlackBerry Torch.

However, this is not all. The guys over at IntoMobile also note that Jim Balsillie confirmed the fact that RIM plans the release of a 64GB model of the BlackBerry PlayBook, in addition to the 16GB and 32GB announced models.

This amount of internal memory would position the slate better in its fight against rivals, that's for sure, especially since it would be complemented by a 5300 mAh battery for more battery life.

There are not too many details available on the battery life time for the PlayBook, but there are great chances that it would be better or in line with what rival solutions can offer.

The other specs of this tablet are as appealing, including the 1 GHz dual-core processor complemented by 1 GB of RAM, Dual HD video cameras (5 MP on the back, 3MP on the front), and the 7" LCD display (1024 x 600 resolution).

The slate measures 5.1" x 7.6" x 0.4" (130mm x 194mm x 10mm) and weighs in at 0.9 lbs (400g), while packing enhanced connectivity options, as well as great web browsing capabilities, with support for Adobe Flash 10.1 and HTML 5.
