In September last year, Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion announced the upcoming availability of its first Tablet PC, the Blackberry PlayBook, and some more info on the availability of this device at wireless carrier Sprint emerged.

The operator should get a 4G-capable version of the tablet PC, one that would support its WiMAX network, and has already emerged on the company's website.

According to Sprint, the tablet PC would be released on its network as soon as this summer, which is actually later than originally expected.

The mobile phone carrier is expected to showcase the device at the CTIA Wireless expo that kicks off tomorrow, along with a series of other smartphones and tablet PCs.

“The first professional-grade tablet with a 7" HD touchscreen combined with blazing speed of 4G. Available this summer,” is what Sprint notes on its website here.

Users interested in learning more on the exact availability of this tablet PC at the wireless carrier should head over to that web page to register their interest.

Sprint would send them a ready-to-buy reminder as soon as the release date for the BlackBerry PlayBook 4G has been set.

Some of the main features of the new device, Sprint notes, would include:

- 1 GHz dual-core processor combined with 4G for speeds up to 10x faster than 3G - Amazing Web experience with Adobe Flash - Keep multiple apps open without clutter - View and edit documents on-the-go - Bridge to a BlackBerry smartphone for access to BBM, Email Calendar, Address Book, and more - Rear- and front-facing HD video cameras for an unrivaled media experience - Perfect for portability – 5.1" x 7.6" x 0.4" and less than a pound

Packing only a 7-inch touchscreen display might prove a disadvantage for the PlayBook, especially if RIM delays its release, originally expected to take place before the end of the first quarter of the ongoing year.

However, this is only the first such device from the company, and it is expected to appeal a lot to existing BlackBerry users, especially since RIM announced that it would also release 3G and WiFi-only flavors of the device, which might be released as soon as this week.
