A new Pearl in AT&T's town

AT&T now offers its customers the BlackBerry Pearl 8110, RIM's latest Pearl smartphone, which comes as one of the smallest devices ever created by the Canadian company. The handset can be bought (in red or grey) at the price of $149.99, with a 2-year contract, after a mail-in rebate and a $50 discount. Check it out on AT&T's website.

Replacing the Pearl 8100 model (that AT&T seems to no longer sell, at all), BlackBerry Pearl 8110 comes with a design similar to its predecessor, but brings several new and improved features.

First of all, the Pearl 8110 has built-in GPS, which will surely help you find your way whenever you can't find it by yourself. Another enhancement that Pearl 8110 brings is the fact that it has a better camera, a 2.0 Megapixel one with video and flash. Moreover, the new Pearl also features Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and a 3.5 mm stereo jack.

Other features remain unchanged, and include a QWERTY SureType keyboard, BlackBerry's well-known trackball navigation system, a 240 x 260 pixels display with 65k colors, quad-band GSM connectivity with GPRS and EDGE, Media player, Document viewer, HTML browser, email, Instant Messaging and microSD card slot. Pearl 8110 weighs 3.20 ounces (91 grams), measures 4.21 x 1.96 x 0.55 inches (107 x 50 x 14 mm) and packs a 900 mAh battery capable of providing up to 4 hours of talk-time and up to 360 hours of stand-by time.

BlackBerry Pearl 8110 is similar to another new Pearl offered by AT&T, Pearl 8120, which comes for the same price, but instead of GPS it features Wi-Fi. I guess RIM should have packed both GPS and Wi-Fi into a single new Pearl, to offer users the best possible device, but since it did not, consumers have to choose now between GPS and Wi-Fi. Oh, life's tough choices.
