Most Canadian carriers are expected to offer the smartphone soon

Good news for BlackBerry fans in Canada, as the native company is expected to introduce its next smartphone, the Passport, in the country, as early as next month.

BlackBerry Passport is not a device aimed at emerging markets, which means the Canadian handset maker is likely to sell it in well-developed markets mainly, but the smartphone may land in some Asian markets as well.

Anyway, it appears that Canada will be among the first countries to get the BlackBerry Passport, but that doesn’t come as a surprise at all given the fact that most BlackBerry handsets launched in the past made their debut in this part of the world.

The confirmation comes via MobileSyrup, which also claims sources close to the matter say BlackBerry Passport is scheduled for release in Canada in “early September.”

This seems to be the same timeframe the handset is expected to arrive in the UK as well, though we’re still waiting for an exact release date to be confirmed in the next few weeks.

Until then, BlackBerry fans can register their contact info on the company’s dedicated website to receive more news on the Passport availability.

Unfortunately, there are no details on the phone’s price tag, so there’s no way to tell how much BlackBerry Passport will cost at TELUS. Price is going to be one of the most important aspects for Passport’s success, given that BlackBerry’s market share shrank so much in the last few years.

BlackBerry Passport is one of the company’s revolutionary devices, as the smartphone features a square 4.5-inch display that supports 1440 x 1440 pixels resolution.

But the Passport doesn’t rely only on design for success. BlackBerry included a powered quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor inside, along with no less than 3GB of RAM.

Moreover, the squared device is packed with 32GB of storage and if that’s not enough for you, there’s also a microSD card slot included which allows you to further expand internal memory up to 64GB.

The Passport’s main camera may have a 13-megapixel sensor, but the information has yet to be confirmed, along with the 2-megapixel camera in the front.

BlackBerry Passport will ship with the latest version of BlackBerry 10 OS, but it will also come preloaded with Amazon Appstore so users can install Android apps and games.

We can safely assume the Passport will be picked up by all major carriers in Canada, but TELUS seems to be first one that’s been confirmed to offer the smartphone. More news on the matter as they hit Internet, so stay tuned.
