One of the features that BlackBerry OS 10.3 will arrive on devices with later this year is BlackBerry Assistant, which is meant to keep users organized, informed, and productive.

Little has been known on the functionality until now, but BlacKBerry has decided to provide some more info on the matter, and enthusiasts looking forward to the new platform iteration now know more on what to expect from it.

The upcoming BlackBerry Assistant will be voice activated and will also help users to easily manage simple tasks on their handsets, including searching for emails or calendar entries, having a look at what is trending on Twitter, or sending trivia night invitations.

Moreover, BlackBerry notes that the application has been designed in such a manner that it will adapt to users, learning more about them as it is used.

“The more I speak with it, the more tuned-in to my queries it gets. If you’ve had experience with other smartphone-based personal assistants, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how accurate BlackBerry Assistant is at recognizing your requests,” Donny Halliwell notes in a post on BlackBerry’s official blog.

Moreover, the aforementioned blog post explains that the BlackBerry assistant has been designed to be compatible with any Bluetooth device, which allows it to prove highly useful in a variety of situations.

For example, it can remind users about appointments or anniversaries, it can send BBM notes, and can also recognize songs when needed. The best part of the deal is that users can enjoy all of these capabilities by voice commands alone.

According to BlackBerry, the Assistant will also be able to complete tasks without leaving the app, which is even better. Basically, users can mark emails as unread or set new reminders without leaving the BlackBerry Assistant, it seems.

Moreover, the Assistant can also be set to block all notifications automatically when in a meeting, for example, while allowing for specific ones, such as phone calls, to get through. Users can change these settings by voice commands, apparenly.

“Like a real-life personal assistant, the BlackBerry Assistant is in lockstep with what I need to do on my Passport, without being distracting or costly (resource-wise). I’m told there are a number of fun Easter eggs built-in as well, which I can’t wait to stumble across,” said blog post explains.

However, it seems that there might be other ways to use the BlackBerry Assistant too, and that the feature will work great on the upcoming BlackBerry Passport, which sports a 1,440×1,440 touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard.
