Ever since BlackBerry confirmed that one of its most successful messaging services, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), would be available on Android platform this summer, there have been lots of rumors on the exact launch date.

Yesterday, BlackBerry launched its third smartphone powered by BlackBerry 10, the Q5, in India. During the press event, the folks over at IBNlive asked Sunil Lalvani, managing director at BlackBerry India, if BBM was indeed arriving on Android this summer.

While Lalvani hasn’t been able to confirm a certain date for the launch of BlackBerry Messenger on Google Play Store, he did say that “the service is coming to Android this summer. But summer as per North America, where it remains till September.”

He has also confirmed that BBM for Android will be available for download before the end of September, which puts the release of the application about two months away. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
