Yes, that is correct, BlackBerry has decided to bring its BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone back to the market and is now accepting pre-orders for the device via its online store in the United States.

The Canadian handset vendor did confirm back in March plans to re-launch the older, yet highly popular Bold 9900 handset, and it appears that the company has finally made the first step in this direction.

The smartphone is now available for reservations in the United States through the handset vendor’s official website, and those interested in getting some old QWERTY love should head over there to place an order for it.

Moreover, BlackBerry notes that ordered units will start shipping on June 18, and that users interested in the device will have to get $399 (€293) out of their pockets to grab it.

One thing that is certain is that the price appears to be a bit high when compared to other handsets out there cost today.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 returns to availability with all of the features and capabilities that it had before included, and runs under the BlackBerry 7 OS.

The mobile phone sports a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, as well as a QWERTY keyboard with optical navigation trackpad on the front. On the back, the smartphone features a 5-megapixel camera with HD video recording capabilities.

Moreover, the handset is powered by a 1.2GHz processor, complemented by 768MB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, as well as a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The specs list of this device also includes Wi-Fi: 802.11 2.4 GHz b/g/n, 5GHz a/n connectivity, GPS receiver, and a 1230mAh removable/ rechargeable lithium-ion battery capable of offering up to 6.3 hours of talk time, or up to 12.8 days of standby time.

The smartphone comes with support for GSM networks out there, but a CDMA flavor has also been released (though it appears that BlackBerry might not bring it back just yet).

“The iconic BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone combines the classic BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard with a brilliant, 24-bit high-res touch screen and precision-based optical trackpad,” BlackBerry notes on its website.

“Purposeful design details meet functionality, with BlackBerry 7 OS and fluid touch screen navigation. The distinctive BlackBerry Bold 9900 delivers incredible performance in one powerful device.”

Those of you who are interested in returning to the BlackBerry OS 7-based smartphone should head over to BlackBerry’s online shop to order it.
