Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion announced during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona the launch of a free version of its BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and now it has made it available for download. The new BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express is a solution aimed mainly at small to medium sized businesses that use Microsoft Exchange Server, which can now enjoy the features that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server can deliver without having to pay the high costs needed for running it.

“Connect two people via BlackBerry smartphones and ideas get bigger. Progress happens faster. Answers get smarter. So imagine what happens when you give a business the freedom to connect all its employees. BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express enables businesses of any size to quickly and easily get started with the BlackBerry solution. It provides advanced BlackBerry smartphone features with no additional software or user license fees, and works with any Internet-enabled BlackBerry data plan or a BlackBerry enterprise data plan,” RIM notes on its website.

The new solution is meant to offer SMB the possibility to enhance the productivity of their workers, as they can easily sync email, calendar, contacts, tasks, memos and more on their BlackBerry devices, while also being able to run business applications. In addition, advanced IT control is available even in cases when employees want to use their own BlackBerry device at work, not to mention controls and advanced security features the solution comes around with.

When it comes to larger companies, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is the solution Research In Motion recommends, “BlackBerry Enterprise Server is the right choice for larger enterprises and government organizations that need the highest level of IT control and advanced functionality. It offers several added features that are designed to meet these needs.” All the necessary details on the new free BES Express and the system requirement for it can be found on the handset vendor's website here, where the solution is also available for download.
