Research In Motion has announced today that its BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone is now available in Hong Kong. The new handset is the thinnest and lightest full-QWERTY BlackBerry currently available on the market, and it includes a 512MHz next-generation processor, along with quad-band EDGE support, built-in Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) connectivity and GPS capabilities.

“The new BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone packs a wealth of functionality in a compact and refined design that looks and feels great,” said Norm Lo, vice president, Asia Pacific at Research In Motion. “Its multimedia and messaging features help users stay connected and entertained, allowing them to make the most of their busy lifestyle at work and at play.”

The new BlackBerry Curve 8900 will come to Hong Kong for three carriers, namely China Mobile Hong Kong Company Limited (PEOPLES), CSL, and SmarTone-Vodafone, and will become available in mid February.

The handset includes a 3.2-megapixel camera with auto focus, image stabilization, digital zoom and flash, and also supports Internet sharing for the pictures through social networking sites like Facebook or Flickr. In addition, there is a microSD/SDHC memory card slot that offers support for up to 16GB of expandable memory, Bluetooth 2.0, low-distortion speakerphone, as well as a 2.4-inch HVGA+ light-sensing display that can deliver a 480×360 pixel resolution.

The handset supports both the BlackBerry Internet Service, which grants users access to 10 work or personal email accounts (such as the most popular ISP email accounts) and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, offering push-based wireless access to email and and other applications.

Other features of the new BlackBerry Curve 8900 include support for BlackBerry Maps, Instant Messaging (BlackBerry Messenger, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger), support for the Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones application, media player, enhanced full HTML web browser, DataViz Documents To Go and BlackBerry Media Sync.
