The first pictures of the long-rumored BlackBerry Curve 8520, also known as the Gemini, have finally surfaced to the Web, showing us a little more of what the device is expected to actually turn into. There have been a lot of speculations on the nice looking handset, yet now it is starting to take shape, and some light is also shed on the features and capabilities it should come around with.

It seems that the BlackBerry Curve 8520 will bring a range of innovative technologies from Research in Motion, and one of them is an “optical trackball” that has no movable parts, resembling a lot a trackpad that could be found on a mini laptop, though it is not certain what name it will actually bear when the phone will be released.

In addition to the optical trackball, the device is also expected to come with dedicated media player buttons, and there are some other new things as well, including the fact that the LCD protector on the front of the phone is stated to somehow extend down over the buttons, this way providing the device with a more polished appearance.

Previously, there were some rumors that the phone might come with interchangeable face plates, though it might not happen after all. One thing that should be present with Gemini is some sort of rubber-coated buttons (the perimeter of the new Curve model is expected to be rubberized), while the device will come with a blacked-out look straight from the factory, says CrackBerry.

Unfortunately, it seems that the BlackBerry Curve 8520 will not come around with 3G capabilities, yet one should agree that it still seems to be a nice device, and a good-looking one too. Until more consistent details on the phone become available, take a look at the images that recently emerged on CrackBerry.
