Telecom service provider Airtel and Research in Motion announced on Tuesday the launch of the new BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone in India. The new mobile phone adds to the already available BlackBerry Curve series of handsets, delivering capabilities like email, messaging, social networking connectivity, music and entertainment to all users in the country. According to the carrier, the new device will become available from Airtel's authorized outlets through Bharti Teletech Limited starting August 7, at a price tag of Rs.15,990.

“It has been our commitment to introduce innovative and cutting edge technology to our users and we are delighted to be the first to introduce the new BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone to all Airtel users at an aggressive price of Rs 15,990,” said Raghunath Mandava, chief marketing officer, Mobile Services, Airtel. “We believe that the BlackBerry Curve 8520 will appeal to young professionals, students and a broad spectrum of retail customers who want the exceptional mobile experience for messaging, social networking, email, music and entertainment that you get from a BlackBerry smartphone.”

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 comes with a touch-sensitive trackpad, offering smooth and easy scrolling and selection capabilities, which contribute to a great user experience. The feature list of the new phone also shows a media player for music, pictures and videos, a 3.5 mm stereo headset jack, BlackBerry Media Sync, a 512Mhz processor, 256MB of Flash memory, microSD/SDHC memory card slot for additional storage space with support for cards of up to 32GB, a 2.46-inch display, a photo snapper with video recording capabilities, HTML web browser, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and Bluetooth, as well as a 1150 mAhr battery that can deliver up to 4.5 hours of talk time or 17 days of standby time.
