Although there have been numerous rumors pointing to a possible BBM release on Windows Phone platform, some even claiming the application is already in the works, it looks like BlackBerry has not intention to bring the instant messenger on Microsoft's mobile platform.

In an interview for TrustedReview, David Proulx, BlackBerry’s Senior Director of BBM Business Development said:

“It [the continuing lack of a BBM Windows Phone app] is entirely market driven. Our initial launch on iOS and Android was a function of the prevalence of those platforms.”

While this basically means BlackBerry doesn't yet considers porting BBM on Windows Phone, it doesn't rule out the possibility that the application will eventually arrive much later.

Given Windows Phone rapid growth in lots of markets, it shouldn't take BlackBerry too much to realize a BBM version for this platform will really be beneficial.

If Windows Phone keeps the same growing trend in the next month it will surely surpass BlackBerry's market share, which will probably justify bringing BBM on Windows Phone.

“It is not a statement of intent, and it’s not a strategic or religious thing, it’s just a function of when does it make sense and when is it something that consumers demand in sufficient numbers to make it worth our while and worth their while,” added Prolux.

If we come to think of it, it's kind of ironic that a company like BlackBerry which shrinks by the day, doesn't think it would make sense to bring its BBM application to a platform like Windows Phone which is growing at a very fast pace.

It will be interesting to see when exactly BlackBerry will consider BBM for Windows Phone, and how long it will take the Canadian company to actually bring the popular application to the Windows Phone market.
