Research In Motion and Vodafone Spain have just announced that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone will become available for purchase on the carrier's network as soon as next week.

The new mobile phone, the thinnest BlackBerry smartphone yet, runs under the company's BlackBerry 7 OS, and pairs a touchscreen display with the popular Bold QWERTY keyboard.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 packs a 1.2GHz application processor, 768 MB of RAM, 8 GB of on-board memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The new mobile phone also features a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD (720p) video recording capabilities.

The specifications list of Bold 9900 also includes a 2.8-inch high-resolution capacitive touch screen display (287 ppi), optical trackpad, Built-in GPS / aGPS, and Accelerometer, Magnetometer and Proximity Sensor.

“In addition, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 features Liquid Graphics technology, which combines a dedicated high-performance graphics processor with a blazingly fast CPU and stunning high resolution display to deliver a highly responsive touch interface with incredibly fast and smooth graphics,” RIM notes.

The mobile phone packs Dual-Band Wi-Fi - 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4 GHz and 802.11 a/n at 5 GHz, along with Bluetooth 2.1+EDR support, HSPA+, and a 1230 mAh removable, rechargeable battery. It measures 115 x 66 x 10.5 mm and weighs in at approximately 130 grams. The mobile phone comes with great performance capabilities when compared to the previous handsets in the series, while also offering great new features courtesy of RIM's new BlackBerry 7 OS.

The new platform sports better browsing capabilities than previous versions of the OS did, as well as voice-activated searches, NFC (Near Field Communications) support, and a browser with optimized HTML5 performance.

“The next generation BlackBerry Browser included with BlackBerry 7 leverages the dramatically improved performance of the advanced WebKit browser engine together with the powerful hardware enhancements found in the BlackBerry Bold 9900 to deliver browsing results that are up to 40% faster than BlackBerry 6 based smartphones and up to twice as fast as models running BlackBerry 5,” RIM explains.
