BlackBerry Bold 9790, the latest device that Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion launched in the popular Bold series, is now available in its homeland country on the airwaves of wireless carrier Rogers.

The new device is the thinnest Bold handset in the world, while offering great performance capabilities courtesy of a fast 1GHz application processor it packs inside, and the new BlackBerry 7 OS that RIM loaded on it.

At Rogers, the new handset arrived with a price tag of $99.99 attached to it with the signing of a three-year agreement.

However, users can also purchase it on two-year terms, for $349.99, or on one-year contracts, for $399.99. When purchased contract free, the device costs $449.99.

Rogers has already added the device to its online offering, and those who would like to make a purchase from the comfort of their home should head to the carrier’s website for that.

“The thinnest-ever, BlackBerry Bold 9790 smartphone is beautifully built to combine the iconic BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard with a brilliant, 24-bit high-res touchscreen and precision-based optical trackpad,” Rogers notes.

“Purposeful design details meet functionality, as you benefit from the new powerful BlackBerry 7 OS; enjoy fluid touch screen navigation with proprietary Liquid Graphics technology, 40% faster browsing with the most powerful engine to date in a BlackBerry smartphone, and much more.

“The distinctive BlackBerry Bold 9790 delivers incredible performance and effortless style—in one slim device.”

The specifications list of this device includes a 2.45-inch screen that can deliver a 480 x 360 pixels resolution, along with the said 1GHz application processor, and a QWERTY keyboard for fast typing.

The new handset resembles a lot with the Bold 9900 smartphone that was made available earlier this year, though it is smaller and less powerful.

However, it still delivers appealing features, including the 5-megapixel photo snapper that RIM placed on its back, with video recording capabilities, and connectivity options that include WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, 3G, and Bluetooth.

The mobile phone also features 8GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.
