Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has just announced officially the upcoming availability of a new Bold smartphone, the BlackBerry Bold 9780, a handset powered by the company's new BlackBerry 6 operating system.

Rumored to be on its way to the market since summer, the Bold 9780 should arrive on shelves all around the world come November, the company announced.

The new device comes with a similar look as the one on the older Bold 9700 smartphone, though it sports improved performance levels, along with enhanced communications and multimedia features.

“We are very excited to introduce the BlackBerry Bold 9780 featuring the new BlackBerry 6 operating system,” said Carlo Chiarello, Vice President, Product Management at Research In Motion.

“This new model builds on the highly refined mobile experience that BlackBerry Bold users already know and love and delivers a wide range of enhancements including a rich new user interface, a fast and powerful WebKit-based browser, broadly improved communications and multimedia capabilities, an incredibly useful Universal Search feature and a high quality 5MP camera.”

Bold 9780 comes with 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi capabilities (carrier supported Wi-Fi calling - UMA where available), GPS for location-based applications and geo-tagging, and more.

The new mobile phone includes a 5 MP camera, 512 MB Flash memory, and a microSD memory card slot for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Not to mention that the device runs under the new BlackBerry 6 OS, which packs a new WebKit-based browser, universal search capabilities, a redesigned UI, and many other improvements.

According to RIM, with the new device, users should enjoy great email, messaging and social networking capabilities, with support for BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and more.

Not to mention that the new OS version comes with enhanced multimedia features, along with a dedicated YouTube app.

“It also features redesigned Music and Pictures applications and a new universal search feature that allows users to more effectively search for content on the smartphone as well as extend their search to the Internet or to discover applications on BlackBerry App World,” the company announced.

Starting with November, users around the world should be able to purchase the new device via various carriers, the mobile phone maker announced officially.
