WIND Mobile, the new wireless carrier Canadian mobile phone users can choose, announced recently that it planned on adding to its offering a new handset from mobile phone maker Research in Motion, namely the BlackBerry Bold 9700. At the same time, the company revealed that the lauch was expected to offer “a new approach to BlackBerry service plans that will deliver choice, control and value to Canadians.”

The best part of all is, of course, the fact that users can purchase the new BlackBerry Bold 2 smartphone without committing to a contract agreement on the carrier's airwaves. “For our pending launch, we are delighted to confirm that the BlackBerry Bold 9700 will be available to WIND Mobile customers,” said Ken Campbell, CEO of WIND Mobile. “This is a state-of-art 3G smartphone from one of the world's leaders in wireless innovation. And our unique value proposition is to offer Canadians simplicity, control and value with our BlackBerry service plans.”

What “simplicity, control and value” are all about include the fact that no contract is needed when purchasing the new Bold 9700 or the BlackBerry services, that this is the first time when the BlackBerry service is available in Canada on a pre-paid basis, as well as on post-paid, and that no required minimum voice spend is needed for purchasing the phone. In other words, the wireless carrier is aiming at making the BlackBerry service accessible to everyone.

What the new BlackBerry smartphone is able to deliver to users include a next-generation (624 MHz) processor, 256 MB of internal memory, built-in GPS receiver, Wi-Fi connectivity, a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper, as well as an appealing design. A touch-sensitive trackpad, as well as a highly tactile QWERTY keyboard are also there to leverage the user experience, not to mention the 2.44-inch display that boasts a 480 x 360 pixel resolution. All inside a device that measures 109 mm x 60 mm x 14.1 mm and weighs 122 grams.

“RIM congratulates WIND Mobile on the upcoming launch of their wireless network in Canada and is very pleased to offer the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 to WIND customers,” said Don Morrison, chief operating officer at Research In Motion. “The compact and beautifully designed BlackBerry Bold 9700 delivers state-of-the-art features and performance and is ideal for both personal and professional use.”
