Most major tech players in the industry today are interested in the wearable ecosystem, with companies like Apple, Samsung, Motorola, LG or ASUS already offering a product or more from this category.

BlackBerry, on the other hand, seems to be giving smartwaches and co. a cold, freezing shoulder. But this doesn’t mean that the device maker won’t be trying to weasel itself into the wearable garden.

According to Fierce Wireless, the company is already testing a version of its BBM messaging solution especially designed for wearables.

The company’s President of Global Enterprise Services, John Sims, said during a discussion with reporters that the company was working on something wearable-related. Then he candidly added, “I would love for BBM to be running on wearables.”

But don’t go thinking this means that we’re soon going to be seeing a BlackBerry wearable.

Not by a long shot. Sims made a point in stressing out that the company was not interested in launching such a product but he added that “it’s definitely an area of research for us,” leaving the door open for speculation.

BlackBerry has been striving to maintain its business afloat in the increasingly competitive mobile environment. The company currently focuses on devices, BBM, enterprise services and technology solutions (like its Internet of Things business).
